I used it to drill 12′” deep holes (7 in total) to install 1 inch diameter bamboo poles for a temporary wire mesh fence separating our yard. (We’ll keep pets on one side of the yard while spraying herbicides on the other side).
Half of the holes were drilled very quickly. For normal soil found in backyard, it took about a minute to drill to a depth of 12″ with a 3/8 electric corded drill.
When drilling in the clay area, mixed with a fair bit of small rocks (1/2″ size), there was some wear observed at the leading edge of the spiral. On several occasions, the electric drill stalled because the bit probably hit larger rocks underneath and could not move on. I think I had also chipped a portion of the leading edge of the bit in one of these cases. It was understood that I was using the bit as a construction tool instead of a garden tool! The electrical drill was quite hot to touch too, indicating lots of power being transferred to the drilling bit. Yet it survived breakage, just some wear observed at the leading spiral edge.
I would recommend this tool because the drilling work (for planting, for example) can be done very quickly. Just remember to ease off on drill speed if hitting rocks.
