I have three cats and we switched to the petsafe auto rake litter box. This litter does okay but I had to get the cover for the box due to the smell. I also keep a candle burning. Beacuse I have three cats I scoop out the poop every 3 days but the crystals dont hold up for more than 5 or 6 days. Before using this system I had 3 enclosed boxes and used ever clean litter. That system was great for odor control and I only had to scoop once a week. This system definately costs me more per month ($75 versus $40) but at this time it is worth it for the easy clean up and taking up less space.

Our cats love it!
The only bad part of this is when you wake up at night, take a weary-eyed stroll to the bathroom, then step on the crystals your oh so loving furry feline brought out of the litter box. If you’ve ever stepped on Jack’s or Legos, this is about half that feeling. Maybe worse since you’re walking on autopilot. Heck, for all I know, my cats are planning to take over the world, one Fresh Step crystal at a time. So far they’re doing a great job!
We buy four bags every six weeks for five cats in three litter boxes. One bag per box, and each bag lasts three weeks for their feces, and two weeks for their urine boxes. It clumps very well, changes from lavender to a sickly alien green when they’ve killed the crystals, then the smell hits you hard. That’s when you’re checking Alexa for the next shipment date, and hope it’s tomorrow!!

I finally have no urine smell in my bathroom. I used very little, about 1/4 of a package for a week or so, and then just scooped the whole thing out. It does not clump so potentially your cat touches dry poop from previous days and walks over urinated crystals (which are dry) but there is no ideal solution for that. This is definitely better than other non-clumping litters that I tried. NO SMELL.

I use this litter with the ScoopFree automated litter box, with a reusable plastic tray.
Pros:
-It’s blue and fun to use. There’s also a purple version, which is very pretty, but I haven’t tried it.
-After switching from clumping litter to this PetSafe crystal litter, and I noticed the odor levels have drastically decreased.
-Works well with the automated litter box.
Cons:
-The amount of litter in each package isn’t quite enough to achieve the depth I prefer. The coverage seems a little thin. If the packages were 30% larger, that would provide better coverage, and it may extend the time between cleanings.
-After a few months, the reusable plastic tray in my litter box has been stained purple. The ammonia from the urine mixed with the blue coloring in the litter must produce the purple stains. It’s not a big deal since nobody sees the inside of the litter box, but I thought it was worth mentioning. It makes me wonder if using the purple version of the litter would exaggerate the problem.
-It could be cheaper. I get a slight discount for auto-renewing my order, but the litter is still more expensive than most clumping litters. But it’s not quite as expensive as “Pretty Litter,” another brand of crystal litter.
How long does it last?
I only have 1 cat, so I don’t know how well this litter holds up with multiple cats, but the automated litter box keeps track of how often it is used.
At about 70 uses, the litter is probably ready to be changed.
At about 100 uses, the litter is stinky enough to be noticeable througout the house.
I’m a cheapskate and I tried to cut costs by using by cheaper clumping litter in the automated litter box, but the clumping litter was dustier, which caused the the moving parts to get squeaky and move with more effort. Switching back to PetSafe litter helped the litter box run much smoother. (I wish I had never tried the clumping litter in the automated box!). So the PetSafe litter is a MUST when using the ScoopFree automated litter box.
Overall, I recommend this litter for regular and automated litter boxes. It’s fun to use due to the blue color, keeps odors down, and works wonderfully with my automated litter box.

I know the litter is lighter weight than clay so the weight didnt signal anything to me about how much Id get. I got these bags hoping to be able to put one in each of my 2 xl litter boxes for my 2 cats. Unfortunately 1 only covers about half an inch in one of those boxes. Im sure they would work better for smaller boxes, especially self cleaning types, but its going to take 2 to fill one of my boxes.
Update: its been 2 weeks. I really like how easy it is to just scoop solid waste. It motivates me to clean the boxes more often. I will say that the lavender scent is really weak. I smell cat waste any time i go into my basement and I clean them almost every day. I got 2 orders of this at one time, both Lavender scent. One order was much more purple than the other one. I am wondering if they do not put consistant parts of purple+white in each shipment. Going to try blue next to see if it covers scent better.

We have 3 cats and keep litter boxes in the (finished) basement. I tried all sorts of clay litter but it always ended up smelling of urine. As soon as I tried this in one box, the smell decreased to a tolerable level. I’ve switched all of their boxes over to this now and there’s basically no smell anymore. Not only that, it’s easier to clean and I’m not carrying heavy boxes to the basement and heavy trash bags back up. The price was a turn off at first, but once I did the math it came out about the same as traditional litter. And no smell is worth the extra cost.

Ho preso questa lettiera perchè è davvero l’unica che assorbe sul serio e intrappola gli odori. Con due gatti non dura certamente un mese e il costo è davvero elevato però, se come nel mio caso, si è costretti ad avere la lettiera in una stanza di casa è davvero perfetta per pulizia e odori.

Détentrice d’une litière automatique petsafe j’ai utilisé leurs sachets vendus avec pendant plusieurs mois en étant très contente, puis je me suis tournée vers d’autres marques de supermarché qui proposent des cristaux et malheureusement je n’ai jamais rien trouvé d’aussi efficace. Je suis revenue à celle ci malgré son prix prohibitif démontrant une fois de plus que les millenials sont les esclaves de leurs animaux (mais ils sont si mignons faut dire). Litière parfaite mais inabordable.
