I recently purchased the Original Hori Hori Namibagata Japanese Stainless Steel Weeding Knife, and I am absolutely thrilled with its performance. This gardening tool has become an indispensable companion in my yard, making weeding and various other gardening tasks an absolute breeze. Without a doubt, it deserves a solid five-star rating!
First and foremost, the build quality of this Japanese stainless steel weeding knife is outstanding. The blade is exceptionally sharp and sturdy, allowing it to effortlessly cut through even the toughest weeds and roots. Its durability is impressive, and I can tell that this tool is designed to withstand the test of time.
One of the standout features of the Hori Hori is its versatility. It’s not just a weeding knife; it’s a multi-purpose tool that can handle various gardening tasks. I’ve used it for digging, transplanting, cutting through compacted soil, and even dividing plants. The serrated edge on one side of the blade is perfect for sawing through thick roots, while the inch markings on the other side come in handy for measuring planting depths.
The comfortable and ergonomic handle of the Hori Hori is a delight to hold. It provides a firm grip, allowing me to have precise control and reducing hand fatigue during extended use. The handle is also well-balanced, making it easy to maneuver the knife through tight spots and hard-to-reach areas.
Another aspect that I appreciate about this weeding knife is the thoughtful design of the accompanying sheath. It fits snugly over the blade, ensuring safe storage and protecting the user from accidental cuts. The belt loop feature is a nice touch, as it allows for convenient transportation while working in the garden.
In terms of aesthetics, the Hori Hori boasts an elegant and timeless design. The stainless steel blade has a beautiful finish, and the wooden handle adds a touch of traditional craftsmanship. It’s clear that attention to detail has been given to both the functionality and the visual appeal of this tool.
Overall, I cannot recommend the Hori Hori, The Original Hori Hori Namibagata Japanese Stainless Steel Weeding Knife, enough. Its exceptional quality, versatility, and user-friendly design have made it an indispensable tool in my gardening arsenal. If you’re a gardening enthusiast or a professional landscaper, investing in this weeding knife will undoubtedly elevate your gardening experience. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

WHAT I LIKE: I’ve been gardening for decades, professionally and in my own garden. I started off in bonsai and just love the design and craftsmanship of authentic Japanese garden tools and had some “mad money” to spend at Amazon, so I bought this great knife. It feels great in my hand, is incredibly sharp (be very careful!) at least for now, and fills a purpose a lot of other weeding and dead-heading tools can’t do. I especially like the serrated side of the blade for cutting through fibrous leaves.
WHAT INFURIATED ME! The knife comes with a sheath that can be attached to a belt – very handy. BUT upon opening the package there was a peel-off plastic label completely written in Japanese. I get it. But if there were any instructions or cautions that I was supposed to understand, without a translation, I was lost. When I peeled off the label, the surface of the sheath was covered with whatever adhesive was used on the label and after four attempt using “Goo-Gone”, Krud Kleaner, and two types of scouring powder, the surface remained very sticky. I knew that if I took it into the garden, it would be immediately covered with dirt.
I ended up visiting a shoe repair shop where I purchased a $12 bottle of leather cleaner. Worked like a charm. But whoever designed this product needs to put some thought into not just the great tool but the packagine.

Bought this as a present for my gardening wife. This is a high quality Japanese stainless steel knife. It has become her favorite gardening tool. She uses it for practically anything she does in the garden. With Christmas a few months away we purchased eight more for gifts. Nice to find good quality products that will last for years.

Bought on a whim after my husband announced I was gardening this year having previously banned me from plants following “The Pumpkin Incident.” We jumped in with a 25’x45’ mess of a plot laid out with no rhyme, reason or plan. Needless to say when the weeds joined the battle, they won. But this was our finest weapon in a losing war. We hacked, we whacked, we cut and we trimmed. We buried it in mud and caked it in dirt, soaked it with rain and with tears. This little gardening knife soldiered on.
I’m a average woman married to Big Scary Man. His wedding band is about the size of a kitten collar. We both find the handle comfortable on this knife. Seriously, that’s a rarity, and the reason why I own 3 bread knives. We ended up avoiding doing garden chores together so we didn’t have to share the knife. Finally purchased another so we could spend time weeding together again. When we foray into the suburban tomato jungle again next year we will have our trusty hori hori knives in hand.

I love this tool in the garden. It’s great for weeding, especially digging out tough roots. I love that it’s multi-purpose; you can use it for digging holes, moving plants, weeding, and the serrated edges allow you to cut things back. Makes it easier than carrying multiple tools around in the garden (especially if you misplace things so easily)! I bought extra so my husband and I can both use one at the same time and got another as a gift for one of my gardening friends!

I bought this for my daughter for her gardening, partly because she had spent a year in Japan and appreciates items made there. It is super sturdy, and of superior metal, quality, and finish.
Almost makes me sick that a couple of years ago, I paid about the same price for a similar but crude painted-steel digging knife/trowel to use while metal detecting. I wish I’d learned about this one sooner. But I’ll probably wait until I lose the crude green/orange one, or it starts rusting badly, before getting another one of these for myself. Only the finest as gifts for my (adult) kids, and certain types of things for myself. I just hadn’t realized that a gardening knife could be one of those things.
One look at this in person, and you know it’s going to last a lifetime. Plus, it’s a work of art.
