Though I have no quarrel with the quality of the NETGEAR Router; it actually works great with my new fiber install, but doesn’t recognize my printer. However, there is one thing that I didn’t consider before buying. In my attempt to save a few dollars in buying a pre-owned item, I didn’t consider that the router’s configuration might still have the previous owner’s information.
When I attempted to log in to the router, I was prompted for the answers to two security questions which obviously the original owner had set and Amazon wouldn’t have this information. I tried to reset the router to factory settings as indicated from the owner’s manual that I found via an online search, but the only thing that was reset was the initial login/pwd to the router which luckily was on the router’s label.
When I attempted to register the router on the NETGEAR website, I received the following message “This serial number is already registered to another customer…”. I contacted NETGEAR Support via email for assistance. They responded with a request for information to substantiate my purchase from Amazon and a picture of the router showing the Serial Number. I complied as requested.
The response that was subsequently received read “As we reviewed your Order Confirmation, it shows that the device purchased is a used unit. Please note that the NETGEAR warranty is valid for the original purchaser only and is not transferable.”
I again replied that I am aware of the item being ‘used’ and am not concerned with the warranty; I only need to know how to be able to access the router and reset the security questions, then work with the configuration in order for it to recognize my peripheral devices–mainly my printer. The email thread contains a Support Case Number, so I am sure that the messages from me are being received by NETGEAR. Follow up emails from myself to NETGEAR Support have produced no responses.
Shame on me for trying save some money and buying something used!!!

I bought this unit because the new modem that SPECTRUM installed was a piece of garbage! It did not easily handle my 2.4 hardware devices (ie Alexa, thermastat, etc). I bought this unit; got it the very next day! It was easy to install but I also called Netgear’s tech support team to ensure all was up and running correctly. They walked me through the entire process; I renamed the router names, and installed the app on my phone. It gives me FAST service. Next day, I very happily returned the SPECTRUM router (and I got a receipt for it…. something VERY important to do!). Thank you NETGEAR! Your products are always TERRIFIC!

Works where TPlink modem failed. Has to have powerful signal strength to work in my house. Setup required only 2 calls to tech support.

I don’t like to post reviews for a product until I’ve had a good chance to use it for a while. So, now a review.
I like this router, it has decent range (I have to place my router in a less-than-optimal place). Day to day usage is good, I have only had one instance where I thought a reboot was necessary. Internal network and internet speed is good and consistent.
It supports DDNS via its own internal client (though I have to renew my DNS entry every 30 days-not Netgear’s issue).
I like to have a few devices “hard-coded” to specific IP addresses, and the router supports this, although finding the section in the UI to actually do this is not as clear as I think it could be.
The router also supports “port-range” forwarding and triggering. My previous router could ONLY specify single ports for forwarding, which was very restrictive for some applications.
There is a “guest mode” supported, also.
What I really like about the router is the lack of disruption when changing most parameters. Some routers require a reboot for parameter changes to take effect. I do not recall this ever happening while changing settings on this router.
The router supports VPN, gaming applications, NTP servers, and internet access restrictions. Internet sites can be blocked by keyword, time, and service type.
Of course, the more common router features are fully supported as well.
I don’t like buying a “pig-in-a-poke”. Many router vendors do not provide their router manuals on their websites, which is a red flag to me. If I can’t review the manual to determine suitability of a given product to my needs, then I prefer not to take a chance with my money. Netgear does an outstanding job of providing easy access to their manuals. If you want to ensure a router is suitable for you, check the manual first.

This is an upgraded router from a previous Netgear router that I had for quite some time that took a dump. I had replaced it awhile back with an eero router which I never really liked because it didn’t have the capability of hardwiring printers and components to it. I temporarily used the eero again and found it didn’t fully reach into the devices in the back of the house, but this one does and is at a faster speed as well.

Netgear has a winner here! The device can handle the usage load which in turn I’m not having pauses, or buffering any longer. Highly recommend!

I bought this NETGEAR router as a replacement for a much older NETGEAR router that I believe was getting weaker over years of use. The setup was fairly straightforward. The WIFI signal strength greatly improved over my previous router. One issue that I learned: I use the router primarily to connect Ethernet cables directly to Roku devices, which causes the router’s Ethernet LED (the 4th light on the device) to glow Amber. After researching this issue across cable, Roku, and other forums it appears that Roku boxes can only handle a slower data transfer speed. Since the router can provide faster speeds, it sees this as a communication error and shows the amber light. I checked this by disconnecting the cables that connect to my Roku boxes and the light turned back to green. Just in case you see the same.
