It really does work – on our dog, anyway. We have a 14 month old LGD – a Hungarian Kuvasz. Totally out of control barking, never obeying any commands, except occasionally, when treats were involved. Even then, she was really easily distracted by pretty much anything nearby or anywhere within her visual and/or auditory perceptions.
This device changed all that pretty much immediately. Indoors, we just barely beep the (to us) audible sound button and she immediately stops the behavior we are trying to correct. Outdoors, we start with the audible sound and, if she does not comply, we then use the top button for the ultrasonic sound. That one stops the behavior immediately. We barely have to touch the button and she stops, moves off a bit and sits down. We have never had to try the highest setting. The one where the slider is pushed way up.
We always precede the use of the instrument with the normal commands like “Enough!”, or “Leave it!”, as the case may be. If the command is ignored, we use the device. First the audible beep, then, if no desired response is achieved, the ultrasonic sound. We praise the good response every time.
We try to keep the instrument out of sight when in use, because we don’t want her to associate it with the correction. We want her to respond to commands, independent of the instrument. It’s tricky, keeping it out of sight outdoors, because, for the ultrasonic sound at least, you have to point the instrument right at the animal. However, so far, we have managed to do so. And the reward is that, indoors, after just a couple of days, we no longer need to use it at all.
She is getting more responsive to voice commands outdoors too. But the distractions and stimulations are much higher outdoors and LGDs are deeply bred to react to them. Still, things have become much more manageable now, after using the device for only a few days.
We don’t use it for obedience training (sit, down, stay), but even that has become much more cooperative now. Our aim is to use the device to reinforce voice commands, correcting truly unruly behavior until she learns to listen and mind just the voice commands. The way things are progressing, we may be done needing the device within a couple of weeks.
We paid just over $27.00 for our device, brand new, directly from Amazon Prime. Including shipping and tax.

We watched the instructional video. Over several weeks we tried it on all the recommended settings and it had no effect whatsoever. (Perhaps our dog is in the 3% they claim it doesn’t work on or perhaps it just doesn’t work as well as claimed). We have returned it for refund.

I want to emphasize that this device works as advertised. I bought this due to my neighbors having 2 untrained dogs they leave out in their front yard for hours on end to bark at anything that goes by, particularly other dogs. Upon receiving this device I charged it and then enthusiastically went for a “walk” past my neighbors’ house. Both dogs came running to the fence barking. I took aim with the device and hit the button. Both dogs turned tail and ran inside. I had to work really hard to contain a grin and my excitement. Undeterred, the french bulldog came right back out barking. Another press of the button sent him right back in. I thought my dog barking problem was over.
Over the next couple weeks, I became a slave to this device and my neighbors’ dogs. Every time they barked, I went running for this device to take it to a window and aim it at the dogs. It worked for a time, but not being home or available to run to the window every time they barked, they did not learn to stop barking but instead they learned to come outside and bark to see if they’d be hit with an ultrasonic sound or not. As a result, there was no reduction in barking, just me having to run to the window with this device EVERY time they barked, which is often. Eventually, the dogs decided they didn’t even care that much about the sound and it became largely ineffective. When the dogs learned to ignore the standard tone, the alternate tone was effective but only for a while and then they ignored both.
I think this would be a great device in the hands of a responsible dog owner looking to train a dog and who can be present at all times during a training period until the dog stops the behavior.
This device was a relatively low cost experiment to see if these dogs would respond and I ended up investing more money in an automatic device I installed on a tree near the property line with a clear line of sight to my neighbors’ front yard. It has greatly reduced the barking to an occasional nuisance, maybe once or twice per day, and tolerable. I find the need to change the batteries a couple times per week to be a lot better than running to the window several times per day as well. If you go the automatic device route, I also recommend investing in rechargeable batteries because they drain them every few days, especially if you live next to a couple of really dumb untrained dogs like I do and the device is actuated all day every day.
So in the end, this is an effective product but I don’t recommend it for a neighbor’s dog, only one you have control over and are training yourself.
