Purchased two batteries this year. I would give these batteries 5 stars however one of my batteries malfunctions.
The malfunctioning battery seems to turn off completely and when I attach it to my Vmount it won’t do anything.
My fix for this is holding down the power check button until the battery reboots showing the small rig logo and the power percentage. After this process the battery works fine however this fix is not consistent and I don’t dare take the battery off the Vmount incase I have to reboot again.
The second battery works perfectly so I save it as my backup battery incase my faulty one kicks bricks… mind the pun.
Unfortunately Amazon shows my return window has passed but if there is a way for smallrig to replace the unit I would love it!
Otherwise 5 star betters. A tad more expensive than average but worth it for the features.

It needs tighter QC to be a secure mount and latch up correctly. Battery self discharge is higher than a typical Li Po battery. Runtime is low. I think the cells or circuitry inside need checking and that quality checks are done during manufacture

I’m a photographer, videographer and editor, which means I have a lot of other batteries to do individual things. These are amazing. I bought 2 and need more. Powers lights (via v mount D Ta), Laptop via usbc, Phones via usbc (iPhone and MacBook straight cables), cameras (fuji via usbc) and anything else via usb-c, usb-a, 12v out, 8v out and D-tap. Perfect battery. Now, instead of taking 5 batteries and a bunch of cables. Now it’s one battery and a lot less cables. This is priceless to me. As I write this, I’m sat in a tyre store waiting for 3 hours and there’s no power outlet but not to worry as I have my battery so it’ll power my MacBook and Iphone so I can continue to work. 100%

Accurate capacity & specs, better than average included documentation and consistently fantastic customer service. The size & weight is roughly consistent with competing micro v-mounts.
Compared to probably its closest competitor, fx-lion: it has a better implemented screen, substantially faster charging, the v-mount hardware is metal rather than plastic, better port covers and d-tap placement. The flatter, squarer sides and large screen window do make it feel marginally less robust, but still at or above the level of most full-sized v-mounts.

NOT HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT. I have this battery along with Smallrigs Vmount battery plate. When I attach the V99 battery to any vmount. I noticed I am able to wiggle it apart/off. BEWARE the vmount is not secure, I already dropped my battery from resting my rig against my chest. So I sandwiched an extra plate that comes with the Smallrig Vmount plate and seems to be secure but is only held with one 1/4”-20 screw. These are both Smallrig products, I’m not understanding why I need to install a second plate for it to work, for such an expensive item and all the advertising they have with the two, you would think they are compatible together. Just waiting on smallrigs response for me to update.

Been using this battery for a while and I’m loving it. Had a issue when it seemed to overheat and wouldn’t turn back on again even when I put it on the charger. I contacted Smallrig and they immediately responded, ended up sending me a new one right away. Great product and great customer service.

I have the 99w and it is exceptionally well built. It is powering my Canon R5 C and Atomos Ninja V shooting at 4k 60fps shooting ProRes 422 HQ with no issues for an hour and a half and I still had 46% left.

The same day I posted my original review complaining that the D-Tap socket pulled out, they contacted me directly and even though the old unit technically still functioned (despite being broken), they sent me a whole NEW battery of the exact same type for FREE and even paid for express shipping so that I would have it the next morning. Ive honestly treated this new battery harsher than the original one by far and it has held up fine. I definitely just had a defective unit. If you also have a defective one of any of their products, just reach out to them through here and they will definitely make it right. I have honestly never been the recipient of better customer service in my life. Big Smallrig fan from here on out.

Original Review (March, 2023): I’m not rough with my camera equipment. If anything I’m too careful with it. I charge everything religiously. This thing barely ever needs charging, after a full day of shooting it has never dropped below 65% and that’s from 100%, powering a Sony a7siii, Atomos Ninja V, a Ulanzi LED, and a Tascam DR-701D Audio Recorder all at once the entire time. It’s speak, lightweight, the interface is crisp and detailed/informative, and the hardware feels very solid.
Until it isn’t. I never yanked out any D-Tap cables or jerked thing around, but one day last week just calmly removing a D-Tap (in this case the locking D-Tap for the Atomos Ninja V), the entire female socket inside the Sony 99 just sorta.. slipped out of the body of the battery. Theres no discernable way to open the battery to fix it, and I’ve repaired plenty of laptops so this type of thing isn’t very foreign to me. Just not sure how to go about dealing with this now as the D-Tap was pretty vital to my work flow. I could “make do” but for this price, we aren’t supposed to have to.
Hopefully I can get a refund or at least have it replaced, but I’m not counting on it. Looks like I’ll be going back to Anton Bauer’s.
